Goal execution health metrics
How likely are current goals to be achieved, and how quickly are material blockers being resolved?
Contents
A paired view of evidence-based goal confidence and blocker resolution time.
Purpose
Use this pair to answer: How likely are current goals to be achieved, and how quickly are material blockers being resolved? Confidence provides a forward-looking assessment; blocker resolution shows whether the operating system acts on the obstacles behind that assessment. Neither should be used alone.
Application
Use the measures for a defined set of objectives and measurable key results reviewed on a regular cadence. Keep confidence evidence-based and comparable over time. Define a material blocker, escalation event, resolution event, and permitted pause before measuring duration.
What it is
- Goal confidence is a current, evidence-backed assessment of the likelihood that each key result will be achieved by its due date.
- Blocker resolution time measures elapsed time from a material blocker being raised to its documented resolution.
Confidence is not progress. A result can be 80% complete and unlikely to finish, or only 30% complete and still on a credible path. The useful signal is the level, change, evidence date, and reason.
Definition and components
Weighted goal confidence
Use this as the calculation definition: Sum of key-result confidence multiplied by Agreed weight divided by Sum of agreed weights. Unit: Confidence index on a stated 0–100 scale. Interpretation: Summarizes current key-result confidence while preserving each result’s score, weight, change, evidence date, and rationale.
Goal blocker resolution time
Use this as the calculation definition: Median Resolved timestamp minus Blocker-raised timestamp. Unit: Elapsed time in hours or working days. Interpretation: Shows the typical time taken to remove, accept, or formally replan around a material blocker after escalation.
