Hiring funnel health metrics
Is the hiring funnel timely, respectful, and producing job-related progression patterns that can be examined fairly?
Contents
A safeguarded hiring-funnel metric suite covering candidate experience, time in stage, conversion, and representation patterns.
Purpose
Use this suite to answer: Is the hiring funnel timely, respectful, and producing job-related progression patterns that can be examined fairly? Candidate experience, time in stage, and stage conversion belong in one diagnostic view. Improving speed alone can reduce assessment quality; improving average experience can hide materially different experiences; a representation change between stages requires careful investigation, not an automatic conclusion about cause.
Application
Use the suite only within an authorized, job-related selection process. Define the eligible population, stage events, survey method, comparison groups, privacy rules, minimum reporting cell, and specialist review before use. The measures support process diagnosis; they must not automatically select, reject, rank, or score individual candidates.
What it is
- Candidate experience rate
- shows the share of valid respondents giving a favorable answer to a clearly stated recommendation or experience question.
- Recruiting time in stage
- shows where candidates wait and where operational delay accumulates.
- Stage conversion rate
- shows progression from one defined stage to the next.
- Representation pattern review
- compares appropriately aggregated funnel composition and conversion across stages under approved legal and statistical safeguards.
Do not collapse the suite into one “diversity” or “hiring quality” score. Keep the populations, uncertainty, and operational context visible.
Definition and components
Candidate experience rate
Use this as the calculation definition: Favorable recommendation or experience responses divided by Valid survey responses. Unit: Percentage. Interpretation: Shows the share of valid respondents selecting the pre-defined favorable response range; report response rate and themes beside the result.
Recruiting time in stage
Use this as the calculation definition: Median Stage-exit timestamp minus Stage-entry timestamp. Unit: Elapsed time in hours or working days. Interpretation: Shows the typical candidate waiting time within a defined stage; include a tail measure and current aging view.
Stage conversion rate
Use this as the calculation definition: Candidates entering the next stage divided by Eligible candidates in the previous stage. Unit: Percentage. Interpretation: Shows progression between two explicitly defined stages for the eligible population and period.
